Tuohey spearheaded a 20-year project to restore the old Pitcher Cemetery in eastern Jackson County and identify grave markers of early settlers. She also volunteered for several historical institutions and penned a book titled "The Devil's Backbone: And Other Fascinating Facts from A Portion of Western Independence and Eastern Kansas City, Missouri."
