The newly renovated Stanley H. Durwood Film Vault, located in the Central library of the Kansas City Public Library, will debut May 23, 2007. The state-of-the-art mini-theater is located in the large vault which is a part of the building that originally housed the First National Bank. Film showings will include clips showing Kansas City's depiction in the movies as well as movies about the city, shot here or that feature Kansas City-born actors. "The renovation was made possible with a grant from the Durwood Foundation established by the late Stan Durwood, founder of American Multi-Cinema Inc. and creator of the multiplex movie theater." The library has more than 27,000 films on DVD and rentals generate about $92,000 annually. Recently the library accepted the Film Society of Kansas City's collection of more than 5,000 cinema-themed books and bound magazines. These will be kept near the fillm vault. Article includes those Kansas City related films which are scheduled through July 21, 2007.
