African American Schools
-
Description
-
Schools, in particular Lincoln High School, were a source of pride and "instruments of community and racial formation in the 1920s and 1930s" amongst the African American community in Kansas City. This chapter provides a history of Kansas City's black schools and the teachers and administrators who worked in them. Several outstanding teachers who, had they been white would probably have taught in higher education, are profiled.
