The Connie Sets a Record
-
Description
-
Reflection by author on her career with United Press and her two-day press trip to promote Trans World Airlines' "The Constellation," nicknamed The Connie. Its maiden flight was February 1, 1946, from New York with a stop over in Kansas City and on to Los Angeles. The memorable return flight, where the co-pilot was knocked unconscious during severe weather, landed safely where "seven ambulances and half a dozen fire trucks" were standing by. The pilot, Jack Frye, flew the Constellation "coast-to-coast in seven hours and twenty-seven minutes, setting a new transcontinetal record."
