Photograph of the Firestone Building at 2001 Grand Boulevard, the southwest corner of 20th and Grand, in the early 1980s. Built to serve as the Kansas City branch of Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, the building was completed in 1916. At the time of the photograph, it still served as a Firestone outlet, with a retail operation on the first floor.

Photograph of the west side of the West Junior High building at 1936 Summit Street in the 1980s. Designed by architect Charles A. Smith, the junior high building and attached library opened in 1926 and were connected to the adjacent Switzer School by a bridge. The Switzer/West campus closed permanently in 2006 and was sold for redevelopment as a residential property in 2015.

Haag Hall was built in 1937 and named for the Haag family, early Kansas City settlers. Royall Hall, originally known as the Haag Hall Annex, was renamed in 1983 after professor Normal Royall.

Photograph of buildings on the UMKC campus in the early 1980s. Royall Hall stands in the background at left, and Scofield Hall in the foreground at right. Scofield Hall was built as a private home for newspaper publisher Walter S. Dickey; upon his death in 1931, it became the university's first site. It was later named for former president and chancellor Clarence Scofield. Royall Hall, originally known as the Haag Hall Annex, was renamed in 1983 after professor Normal Royall.

Photograph of the rear of the apartment building spanning 1-7 East 34th Street, formerly known as the Rat Castle Apartments, in the early 1980s. This block of rowhouse apartments was constructed in 1888, prior to the area's annexation by Kansas City, and continues around the corner to an additional residence at 3401 Main Street. The building underwent a major renovation and rehabilitation in 1982-1983. The majority of buildings on the block were razed in the 1980s and 1990s for additional parking lots and to expand the Foreign Language Academy's campus.

Photograph of apartment buildings at 8-12 E. 32nd Terrace looking southwest from a rear parking lot in the early 1980s. The area, south of Linwood Boulevard to 34th Street, between Main and Gillham, was deemed blighted and ridden with crime and drugs in the late 1980s, and these buildings, as well as other homes, apartments, and commercial buildings, were demolished in the early and mid-'90s as part of the so-called "Glover Plan" to be replaced by the Midtown Marketplace development, a large commercial development anchored by big box retailers Home Depot and Costco.
