Missouri Valley Special Collections staff have been hard at work adding new content to KCHistory. Below, you will find a list of newly digitized objects added to the site during the month of October.

From our Kansas City Police Historical Society Collection, a scrapbook compiled by Captain Hugh M. Dougherty with over 130 images documenting the history of the police department and his career have been added. Born in 1875, Dougherty was hired by the KCPD in 1917. In 1932, he was made commander of the Sheffield Police Station. In addition to items collected during his career, photographs and clippings from his work with Boy Scouts Troop 177 and the KCPD Junior Patrol are included. The scrapbook can also be viewed in its entirety with the page flip object viewer.

Over 40 video interviews documenting the history of Kansas City’s garment industry are now viewable. In addition to the recorded interviews, text transcripts can also be accessed.

Lastly, a colorful Kansas City public transit map from 1941 was scanned and added to the site. Included are two sections from the map’s reverse side listing streetcar and bus lines, points of interest, and other information about mass transit in KC.
